Travel Scholarships for NIDA mini-convention - Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting New Orleans

Dear SRNT-E members,

The SRNT-E will offer two travel scholarships for young investigators to attend the NIDA Mini-Convention ‘Frontiers in Addiction Research’ of the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting New Orleans, LA. This satellite meeting will take place on Friday October 12, 2012. The young investigators will present a poster during the Early Career Investigator Poster Session.

At the NIDA mini-convention satellite meeting, outstanding scientists will present recent findings and discuss future directions in the neurobiology of drug abuse and addiction. The mini-convention will include four symposia, a presentation by the Jacob Waletzky Memorial Prize winner, and the poster session for early career investigators. This year’s symposia will be on these topics: Brain Energetics and Neurotransmission: Fueling Neurons and Glia; Role of Phagocytes in Synaptic Plasticity and Remodeling in the Nervous System; Ghrelin Leptin, and Insulin Modulate Reward; Central Nervous System Immune Signaling and Addiction.

The Early Career Investigator Poster Session will take place over an extended lunch break (~12:00 - 2:00 pm) between symposia. Based on NIDA's experience from the past 10 years, the poster session will be very well attended. SRNT-E will provide two travel awards of 1000 euro to offset additional expenses for junior investigators who present a poster. The poster may be the same as will be presented at the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting.

Young investigators can apply by sending a motivation letter, abstract and CV to Jacqueline Vink: . SRNT-E will support two European PhD-students/postdocs (within 3 years after PhD), SRNT-E members are preferred, but it is not a requirement.

The deadline for the applications is May 1.

Kind regards,

on behalf of SRNT-E,

Dr. Jacqueline Vink
